Introduction
GLOBE is currently developing an hourly soil temperature protocol for
use with Onset HOBO dataloggers. Some schools may be able to take
advantage of this technology to participate in the following USDA
sponsored research effort described below. For starters, regardless
of whether you collect manual or automatic soil temperature data, the
USDA data provides baseline monthly means to compare your data.
A word of warning - since the USDA data set often is representative
of only one year of data, this year's monthly mean might not agree.
However, the seasonal pattern should be similar.
