About us: The Surface Water Hydrology Group at the University of Arizona's Hydrology and Water Resources Department was established by Peter Troch in November 2005. We are involved in a wide range of research topics related to hillslope, catchment and river basin hydrology. Much of our work focuses on understanding hillslope to catchment-scale characteristics such as flow pathways, water residence times, and rainfall-runoff relationships in complex terrain. In addition, we focus on issues of water availability and management at the river basin scale. We are currently maintaining and collecting data from field sites in the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson, AZ and in the Valles Caldera Nature Preserve near Los Alamos, NM, however some of our research also focuses on areas as large as the Colorado River Basin. The primary mission of the group is to provide cutting-edge solutions to problems in surface water hydrology.
